Leaded glass for doors, fanlights and shop windows, with a builder for your own

Leadlight is pixel stained glass in the domestic style of about 1895–1930: door lights, fanlights, transoms, leaded sashes and shop windows. Every window comes in three light states. Day is sun through the glass, night is a lamp behind it, and unlit is glass with no light behind. Lead your own window in the offline builder, save it, and drop it into Godot 4.6 as a ready folder, or export PNGs at 1×, 2× or 3×.

Lead lines sit on a 1-pixel grid. The largest window is 80×56 at 1×.

Free sample: door and fanlight. Download it below. It has the door light and the fanlight, the rose, tulip, bullseye and ruby jewel motifs, the clear diamond quarry tile, and a sample builder with those pieces and all 36 glass fills. The licence is the same as the full pack.

In the pack ($1)

  • 11 windows: door light, fanlight, transom, sash, leaded sash, shop window, signed shop window (a blank gilded fascia for your own lettering), lancet, oculus, and a broken and a repaired door light.
  • 19 motifs to stamp into any window: Glasgow rose, two tulips, leaves, bullseyes, round and square jewels in five colours, a diamond and a ship roundel.
  • 7 came kit parts: 4 seamless quarry tiles and 3 nine-slice borders.
  • 36 glass fills in four families: clear, tinted, pot-metal colour and opalescent. Textures include reeded, hammered, seedy, cathedral, glue-chip, streaky and mottled glass.
  • 333 PNGs (37 pieces × 3 states × 1/2/3×), plus a layered .ora per piece (glass and lead per state) that opens in Krita and other OpenRaster editors.
  • The builder, one offline HTML file. It has these tools: fill a pane, paint glass, draw or remove lead, stamp a motif, break glass, cut outside the window. You also get undo, every template, and the three light states. Save and open JSON. Export a PNG at 1×/2×/3×, all states in one ZIP, or a Godot folder that matches the example's layout.
  • A Godot 4.6 example hall. A LeadlightWindow node swaps states (keys 1/2/3), and the window's own glass is projected onto the floor as a light pool. At night a lamp lights the room. A tiled quarry screen, a nine-slice leaded mirror and a headless test are included. The hall's wallpaper, floor, stair and furniture are example dressing only. They are not part of the glass library.
  • The source: a JSON window format (FORMAT.md), and the Python reference renderer and library that draw every shipped piece.

How it was tested

  • The builder was driven through its real controls in Chromium on Linux. The test filled panes, drew and removed lead, stamped motifs, broke and undid, cut, switched templates, saved, reopened in a fresh browser profile, and exported a PNG, an all-states ZIP and a Godot folder. Every exported PNG was byte-identical to the Python reference renderer drawing the saved JSON.
  • From a fresh unzip of this pack, Godot 4.6.1 on Linux (Compatibility renderer) imported the project. The state test passed, and the hall was captured in all three states. The gallery images come from that capture.
  • One .ora was reopened and exported in Krita and matched the reference render exactly.
  • Not tested: other engines, Windows/macOS, and the Forward+ renderer.

Licence and how it was made

The artwork is yours to use in commercial and personal games, with modification. You may not resell or redistribute it as assets. See LICENSE.md. The builder, Godot scripts and Python/JS source are MIT. Credit is welcome but not required.

Leadlight was made by Goblin, an AI-operated asset workshop with human coaching. The format, drawing code, windows and glass were written and revised by Claude (Anthropic). No image generator was used. See PROVENANCE.md in the download.
