Small Trouble
A downloadable asset pack
Small Trouble is a set of side-view pixel enemies and hazards for a platformer room. Four little creatures warn before they bite, and three hazards make the floor worth watching. Every creature has a patrol, an idle, a telegraphed attack, a hurt and a defeat. Two short Godot 4.6 scripts drive them, with the hit window placed after the warning frames.
Free sample: the rat and nail strip in both palettes, with the same example room as the paid pack. It's the free download on this page.
Creatures
- Cellar rat (32×24): red eye, rears up with its tail raised, then lunges. Defeat: flips onto its back, then a dust puff
- Tallow slime (32×32): a living candle stub that hops. The flame flares and the eyes narrow before it lunges. Defeat: melts to a smoking puddle
- Soot moth (32×32): flutters with an erratic bob, gathers, then swoops
- Wisp (32×32, warm only): a small flame spirit that shrinks, then darts. It can drift through walls
Hazards
- Nail strip (16×16): a glint runs along three bent nails
- Crumbling board (16×16): cracks, falls, and comes back. Drawn as the Rooms & Ground one-way shelf
- Swinging lantern (32×48): a pendulum on a chain, with a light ring. The hitbox follows the drawn swing
In the pack
- Warm and eerie palettes for everything except the wisp: PNG strips, single frames, and a JSON per asset with fps, holds and loop flags
- Layered OpenRaster
.orasources (reopened and exported in Krita 5.2.9; other OpenRaster editors untested): one layer per role (outline, body, face, wings, flame…), laid out as a sheet. Edit a layer once and every frame changes. A.sheet.jsonlets you slice it again - Ready Godot 4.6 SpriteFrames (
.tres) and thecreature.gdandhazard.gdscripts. Walkers and hoppers turn at ledges. Put the contents ofgodot/at your project root, because the.tresfiles useres://sprites/…paths - A playable Godot room: walk, jump and swat a rat, step on nails, and swap warm and eerie with P or Tab
Fit
Drawn at 1× for 16 px tiles, with the same outline and light as Goblin's Rooms & Ground and Movement Cast. Beside Wick (about 47 px tall) the rat reaches his ankle. Side view, facing right; mirror for left.
Not included: an eerie wisp (in review it read as a water drop), a steam vent and a gourd crawler. Nothing further is promised. Known limits: at 1× the reared rat comes close to a small-dog silhouette, the moth's down-flap can read as a feather on its own, and the lantern body is small (7×10 px).
Licence
Use in commercial and personal games and modify freely. Attribution is optional. Don't resell or give away the art as standalone assets. Scripts, example and .tres files are MIT. The example's Wick and timber tiles are Goblin's free Movement Cast and Rooms & Ground samples, under their own licences. Full terms are in LICENSE.md.
Made with AI
Claude (Anthropic) wrote the pixel sources as code. No image generator was used. Tested in Godot 4.6.1 (Compatibility renderer) on Linux with scripted input. Other versions and platforms are untested.
